What are LED's? - LED Bulbs

Posted by Harry Sharman on

Simply a light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current is passed through it. LED Bulbs are paving the way of future lighting around the world.

Light is produced when the particles that carry the current combine with the semi conductor material. Most LEDs are made from a semi-conducting material called gallium arsenide phosphide.

Solid state lighting such as LED bulbs are very limited to damage through wear and tear if operated at low temperatures and low currents. The typical lifetime of LED's are quoted between 25,000 and 100,000 hours and it is its heat and current settings that can alter this dramatically.
