Councils up and down the country are approving plans to transform street lighting with new specialist LED Bulbs. Poole council in Dorset have predicted a £20million saving on lighting bills as a result of the change. The LED lamps also have the added bonus of needing less maintenance further saving the council money in theses times of austerity.
Councillors have predicted a loan of about £10million will be needed but insist it is well worth it in the long run.
The installation of the new LED bulbs will mean that previous suggestions of turning the lights off between midnight and 6am will be quashed.
